KOLKATA: A bomb threat email sent to the official account of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) triggered a major security alert during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
According to the report, the suspicious email, reportedly sent from an unknown ID, was detected while the match was underway, prompting CAB officials to immediately inform the Kolkata Police.
“We received a bomb threat mail in the afternoon, after which we informed Kolkata Police. Security has been beefed up inside the stadium,” CAB President Snehasish Ganguly said.
Police launched an investigation and tightened security at the venue. Despite the threat, the match continued without interruption.
According to CAB, a crowd of 42,373 spectators was present at Eden Gardens during the match.
The incident coincided with India’s launch of Operation Sindhoor, a series of precision airstrikes in response to the May 4 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
