Liverpool: Liverpool have launched a club-record £109 million bid for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, aiming to strengthen their squad under new head coach Arne Slot. This comes just a day after confirming the signing of Wirtz’s teammate, Jeremie Frimpong.
The Guardian reported that the bid surpasses Liverpool’s previous transfer record of £85 million for Darwin Núñez. Wirtz, 22, is seen as the perfect addition to help the Reds build on their recent Premier League title win.
Talks between the clubs are progressing, though Leverkusen initially valued the German forward at £126 million. Wirtz, capped 29 times for Germany, has reportedly rejected a move to Bayern Munich and is keen on joining Liverpool for a new challenge abroad.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, could be on the move. The Telegraph reports that Saudi Pro League champions Al Hilal are increasingly confident of completing a deal worth between £80 million and £100 million.
Fernandes, 30, has been United’s standout performer in a challenging season and is seriously considering the move. His agent, Miguel Pinho, has held advanced talks in Riyadh. Al Hilal aims to finalize the transfer two weeks before the FIFA Club World Cup begins.
In other transfer news, Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly signed a new deal with Al Nassr. According to Foot Mercato, the 40-year-old will extend his stay despite speculation after a cryptic social media post.
His previous contract was set to expire on June 30, and the new deal is said to be worth £167 million per year. The 2025 UEFA Champions League final will kick off at 8 p.m. UK time on Saturday, May 31.
