34 Babies Born Amid Deportation Crisis at Torkham's Omari Camp

Jalalabad: Since the onset of the second wave of forced deportations of Afghan migrants from Pakistan, 34 children have been born at the Omari Camp located in Torkham Township. Camp health officials confirmed that both mothers and newborns are receiving essential medical care and facilities.

Sayed Mohammad Shahid, the head of the camp’s health committee, reported that out of the 34 births, two were performed via surgical procedures, while the remainder were natural deliveries.

Efforts to enhance healthcare at the camp have been supported by charitable groups. Nazar Afghan, a representative of one such organization, stated that over a span of three days, specialist doctors would be providing medical treatment, and medications worth several hundred thousand Afghanis would be distributed free of cost.

On the other hand, many deported Afghans have shared harrowing experiences from Pakistan, highlighting the lack of medical support.

Abdul Shakoor, one of the deportees, described how pregnant women in poor health were forcibly expelled. “Some homes were raided, and families were separated—men taken from some homes, women from others,” he told Tolo.

In addition to healthcare, Omari Camp is also offering free services in transportation, taxation, food distribution, communications, and more—courtesy of the caretaker government and various partner organizations.
