New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday launched a sharp attack on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav over his criticism of the Waqf (Amendment) Act and his allegations that the current government is undermining the Constitution framed by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi accused Yadav and his party of misrepresenting socialism for political gain. “Parties like the RJD and Samajwadi Party (SP) claim to uphold socialist values, but their actions suggest otherwise. They fail to advocate for the rights of poor and marginalized Muslims. Calling their version of socialism ‘Namazvad’ would not be an exaggeration,” Trivedi remarked.
He further condemned Yadav, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, for opposing the Waqf (Amendment) Act, emphasizing that the legislation was passed by Parliament and should be respected. Trivedi alleged that the opposition to the Act is a form of appeasement politics aimed at specific voter blocs.
Addressing the voters of Bihar, Trivedi framed the upcoming political choice starkly. “There are two clear paths: one where the INDIA alliance could potentially push for sharia-like governance through indirect means, and the other is our government, steadfast in its commitment to safeguard Dr. Ambedkar’s Constitution,” he said.
The BJP leader also reiterated that the RJD's stance was driven by vote-bank politics, suggesting that their objections to the Act were not rooted in constitutional concerns but political expediency.
