Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced the launch of a nationwide protest movement against the government, stating that the party has no other option left but to take to the streets.
The announcement came after a meeting between PTI Senator Ali Zafar and Imran Khan at Adiala Jail. The meeting involved in-depth discussions on national political developments and internal party matters.
Speaking to the media outside the prison, Senator Ali Zafar said Imran Khan believes that the judiciary and executive have failed to provide any relief to PTI. “We have been pushed to the wall, and now the streets are our only recourse,” Khan reportedly told Zafar.
Imran Khan will lead the movement from jail, though the protest’s epicenter will not be Islamabad. Senator Zafar revealed that he has been assigned the responsibility to prepare a comprehensive plan for the movement, which he will submit to Khan in the coming days.
The plan will be finalized after consultations with lawyers and senior party leadership. According to Senator Zafar, Khan is taking this initiative very seriously and has vowed that this protest movement will be unlike any seen before.
“Imran Khan has said we will launch a result-oriented, well-planned, and fully-prepared movement,” Zafar stated. “He will lead the protest from within jail and issue all necessary directives from there.”
Zafar further shared that after their next meeting, Imran Khan will assign specific responsibilities to different party leaders. While he trusts the current party leadership, Khan has insisted on personally leading this movement.
Responding to a question about the upcoming court proceedings, Zafar remarked that whether the hearing of Imran Khan’s case takes place on June 5 remains uncertain, but the party is hopeful for some legal relief.
