Rome: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced the signing of industrial and cooperation agreements worth approximately $10 billion with Saudi Arabia, marking a significant step in strengthening ties between the two nations.
The announcement followed Meloni's meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Al-Ula.
During the meeting, both leaders emphasized the potential for expanded collaboration. “This visit marks the beginning of a new chapter in our partnership,” Meloni stated, referencing the joint declaration signed by both countries. The declaration outlines ambitions to deepen cooperation and explore fresh opportunities.
The agreements span various sectors, including infrastructure, energy, defense, sport, entertainment, and tourism. These commitments were accompanied by a series of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed by public and private entities during Meloni's visit.
In addition to economic discussions, the leaders addressed pressing international issues, including achieving a sustainable peace in Ukraine, strengthening the ceasefire in Gaza, advancing reconstruction in Syria, and supporting Lebanon's recovery.
Meloni's office highlighted that these agreements signal a stronger, more effective partnership, reflecting the growing strategic importance of Italian-Saudi relations.
