NEPA Urges Global Support for Climate Action Without Political Bias

Kabul: The National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) has emphasized that the global perspective on Afghanistan’s environmental issues and the impact of climate change is often influenced by political considerations.

During a meeting with the European Union’s chargé d'affaires for Afghanistan, NEPA’s head, Mati ul Haq Khalis, urged the EU to help facilitate Afghanistan’s access to international climate finance.

According to Ruhullah Amin, NEPA’s head of Climate Change, discussions covered a range of topics, including stalled environmental projects, Afghanistan’s participation in the 29th UN Climate Change Conference, access to bilateral financial resources, and regional cooperation in climate-related initiatives.

Environmental experts welcomed these discussions, noting their importance in reviving incomplete climate projects.

"Engagement and dialogue can help build mutual understanding and lead to practical solutions. If the international community and Afghan authorities do not prioritize climate change, the crisis will only deepen," said Sayed Mohammad Suleiman Khail, an environmental specialist.

The Islamic Emirate has repeatedly called on the international community to separate climate change issues from political considerations, urging a collaborative approach to addressing environmental challenges.
