Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN Warns of TTP's Growing Threat in Afghanistan

New York: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram, has warned that militant groups operating in Afghanistan are being supported by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan, Ambassador Akram stated that these organizations pose a serious threat to the security and stability of the region. He cautioned that TTP’s longstanding ties with Al-Qaeda could transform it into a significant global terrorist threat.

The Pakistani envoy alleged that TTP carries out cross-border attacks on Pakistan from safe havens in Afghanistan, targeting military personnel, civilians, and state institutions. He asserted that Pakistan has "solid evidence" proving that authorities in Kabul are not only allowing these attacks but also supporting them.

Ambassador Akram further claimed that apart from TTP, groups like the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Majeed Brigade are also collaborating with other extremist organizations in Afghanistan to sabotage the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Expressing disappointment, he criticized the UN Secretary-General’s report on Afghanistan for lacking a mention of terrorism, despite the grave security concerns.
