New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reaffirmed India’s unwavering stance against terrorism while presenting a comprehensive nine-point agenda for building a sustainable and prosperous nation.
His address came during the inaugural ceremony of the centenary celebrations of renowned Jain spiritual leader Acharya Vidyanand Maharaj, held at Vigyan Bhawan in the capital.
Striking a chord with the audience, PM Modi began a sentence with “Jo hume chhedega…” (Whoever provokes us...), prompting the gathering to energetically complete it. Smiling, he remarked, “I hadn’t even finished the sentence, and you completed it,” alluding to the country's growing nationalistic sentiment.
The Prime Minister referred to Operation Sindoor, launched by India on May 7 in response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. Though he stopped short of detailing the operation, Modi hinted at tacit public support, saying, “Even without saying it explicitly, perhaps your blessings were with Operation Sindoor.”
Jain Acharya Pragya Sagar commended the Modi-led government for "significant decisions", such as the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, the redrawing of the map for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and the "swift counter-terrorism" efforts following the Pahalgam massacre.
During his speech, PM Modi reiterated nine national resolutions aimed at fostering holistic development. These included water conservation, afforestation, promoting cleanliness, supporting local industries, domestic tourism, organic farming, healthy living, embracing yoga and sports, and assisting the underprivileged.
Paying homage to Acharya Vidyanand Maharaj, Modi acknowledged his spiritual and cultural contributions — from advancing Jain philosophy and restoring ancient temples to reviving the Prakrit language and formalizing the Jain flag and emblem.
The centenary celebrations, which span from June 28, 2025, to April 22, 2026, will feature a nationwide series of spiritual, literary, educational, and cultural events, as announced by the Union Culture Ministry. The opening ceremony was attended by leading Jain Acharyas, spiritual dignitaries, Members of Parliament, and scholars from across the country.
