Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will address the international climate conference Breathe Pakistan at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad.

The two-day conference, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, will bring together national and international experts to explore viable solutions to climate change.

The primary objective of the conference is to mobilize financial resources and develop strategies to combat climate change. A key session will focus on climate finance, where Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and two former governors of the State Bank of Pakistan will discuss the critical need for funding to support climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.

Valerie Hickey, the Director of Climate Change at the World Bank, will also speak at the session. Additionally, she will participate in a separate panel discussion on mainstreaming climate action and enhancing the resilience of climate-vulnerable nations.

A roundtable discussion will be held to foster dialogue between the government and the corporate sector, aiming to identify sustainable public-private partnerships. Notable participants in this session include Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal.

A dedicated session on agriculture, forestry, and food systems will feature experts in these fields.

Speakers will include Florence Rolle, the FAO Representative in Pakistan, Ayesha Humera Chaudhry, Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change, and former Climate Change Minister Malik Amin Aslam.

The closing session of the conference on February 7 will be addressed by former Prime Minister and Chairman of the Senate, Yousaf Raza Gilani.

Other prominent speakers at the conference include environmental expert Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, climate activist Karishma Ali, youth activist Zunaira Qayyum Baloch, and Senator Musadik Malik.

The Breathe Pakistan conference is expected to facilitate critical discussions on climate resilience, financial mobilization, and strategic partnerships to address the growing challenges posed by climate change.
