Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to unveil the “Udaan Pakistan Program” today, a visionary National Economic Transformation Plan aimed at revitalizing Pakistan's economy by 2029.
The program is structured around a four-point agenda focusing on:
- Boosting Exports: Enhancing Pakistan's export potential through strategic initiatives.
- Facilitating Foreign Investment: Creating an investor-friendly environment to attract international capital.
- Improving Tax-to-GDP Ratio: Strengthening fiscal policies and increasing revenue generation.
- Addressing Public Sector Losses: Identifying and mitigating challenges faced by loss-making state-owned industry.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Ministry of Trade, successful entrepreneurs, and key stakeholders to double the nation's economy. He highlighted the need for accelerated efforts and mutual trust to achieve this ambitious goal.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal underscored the role of an export-driven economy and stressed the importance of fostering industries such as e-commerce, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence to achieve sustainable growth.
Under the Udaan Pakistan Program, the government aims to increase the country’s annual exports to $60 billion by 2029. Additionally, it plans to transform Pakistan’s economy into a $1 trillion economy by 2035, accompanied by significant improvements in literacy rates to combat poverty and unemployment effectively.
