Peshawar/Quetta: A suicide bombing attempt was thwarted on the outskirts of Peshawar in the Shamshato and Urmar areas, where the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) neutralized a suicide bomber along with his facilitator, both affiliated with the outlawed militant group known for orchestrating attacks under the banner of "Fitna al-Khawarij".
According to CTD officials, the Afghan national who carried out the failed suicide mission was wanted in several terrorism-related cases. Authorities recovered a suicide vest and weapons from the scene.
The failed attack comes amid a recent surge in militant violence across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.
On Sunday, security forces in Balochistan's Duki district killed two militants and arrested two others. Just day earlier, 13 soldiers were martyred in a deadly suicide bombing in North Waziristan.
Fresh reports also indicate that on Sunday night, several individuals were injured in a quadcopter strike in North Waziristan. That same night, heavy clashes erupted between militants and security forces in South Waziristan, resulting in civilian casualties and unconfirmed reports of fatalities.
Last week, a similar drone attack in Lakki Marwat, a district bordering Waziristan, left 16 people seriously injured.
The intensifying wave of terrorism and increasing frequency of armed confrontations between security forces and militant groups have sparked widespread fear and anxiety among civilians in both provinces. The rise in collateral damage, particularly among non-combatants, has further exacerbated the public’s concerns over deteriorating security conditions.
