RIYADH/ABU DHABI: Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates issued strong condemnations of Iran’s missile strike on Qatar’s Al-Udeid Air Base, calling it a blatant violation of international law and a serious threat to regional stability.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom said: “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemns and denounces in the strongest terms the aggression launched by Iran against the sisterly State of Qatar. This aggression constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and is unacceptable under any circumstances.”
The Kingdom also affirmed its full solidarity with Qatar and said it is “deploying all its capabilities to support the sisterly State of Qatar in all the measures it takes to preserve its security and sovereignty.”
The United Arab Emirates also denounced the attack, calling it a “flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace.” In a statement carried by state news agency WAM, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it condemned the targeting of Al-Udeid Air Base “in the strongest terms.”
According to Iranian state media, Iran’s missile attack on the US-operated Al-Udeid base came in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The attack marks a sharp escalation in regional tensions.
Qatar condemned the strike, calling it a violation of its sovereignty and asserting its right to respond in accordance with international law. Qatari authorities confirmed that the incoming missiles were intercepted and no casualties were reported.
It is important to note that the ceasefire between Iran and Israel has been announced by Trump after Iran's strike on US military base in Qatar, confirmed by Israel while Iran's official statement is yet to come.
