U.S.-Iran Nuclear Talks: Fourth Round Delayed Amid Rising Tensions

Tehran/Washington: The fourth round of nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran has been delayed, according to official sources from both sides.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce told the BBC that the date and venue for the next round had not been finalized. She added that a meeting may still be held in the near future but provided no specifics on timing or location.

Earlier, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that Iran, the U.S., and mediator Oman had jointly agreed to postpone the scheduled Saturday meeting in Rome due to “logistical and technical reasons.” Araghchi stressed that Iran's commitment to a peaceful resolution remains unchanged, stating, “We are more determined than ever to reach a fair and balanced agreement.”

Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi also confirmed on X that a new date for the talks would be announced following mutual agreement between Tehran and Washington.

The delay comes amid heightened tensions, as U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday warned of action against countries purchasing oil or petrochemicals from Iran. In line with this, the U.S. imposed additional sanctions on several companies this week, citing ties to Tehran.

Meanwhile, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a stern warning to Iran on Wednesday, accusing it of supporting Yemen’s Houthi rebels. In a message posted on X, he wrote: “Message to Iran: We see your bloody support for the Houthis. We know exactly what you’re doing. You know well what the U.S. military is capable of, and you have been warned. You will pay the price for this support at a time and place of our choosing.”

The third round of talks was held last Saturday, April 26, in Muscat, where for the first time, technical and expert delegations from both nations participated.
