Dhaka: On the occasion of Bangladesh's 55th Independence Day, Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated President Mohammed Shahabuddin of Bangladesh while celebrating the long history of friendship that has existed between China and Bangladesh. In the message, relayed by Chinese state media CMG, Xi emphasized the warm cooperation that has been enjoyed between the two countries over the last five decades.
In the congratulatory message, Xi Jinping stated that the two neighboring countries had built their relationship over the past 50 years upon the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, emphasizing the principles of respect for sovereignty, equality, and cooperation. There have been many areas throughout the years with steady partnerships that share mutual benefits for China and Bangladesh, including trade, infrastructure, and culture.
President Xi also pointed out that this year marks 50 years of formal diplomatic relations with China and Bangladesh, a significant landmark in bilateral relations. The year is furthermore declared "China-Bangladesh Year of Humanitarian and Cultural Exchange," which celebrates the growth of people-to-people and cultural ties between the two countries.
Xi emphasizes that the two countries must now focus on strengthening ties even further with high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and so it would bring above even more strength to the already established strategic partnership and would lead to mutual prosperity and development.
On the same day, Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang sent congratulations to Professor Muhammad Yunus, who is serving as Chief Adviser to the Government of Bangladesh, thereby affirming China's commitment to strengthening ties with Bangladesh.
Moving forward, sending congratulations from the top leaders in China is a reflection of the strong diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations that currently exist between China and Bangladesh and will continue to thrive in the years to come.
