Rawalpindi: Security forces in Pakistan’s North Waziristan district have killed 54 militants who were allegedly attempting to infiltrate the region, according to a statement from the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The statement said a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives was recovered from the deceased militants.
According to intelligence reports cited by ISPR, the group was specifically planning high-profile terrorist attacks in Pakistan at the behest of "foreign masters." The statement further alleged that the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) carried out the attempt at a time when India was leveling "baseless accusations" against Pakistan, suggesting the militants were acting on external directives.
“These acts will be considered acts of rebellion and treason against the state and its people,” the statement warned.
It also referenced discussions held during the recent National Security Committee (NSC) meeting, emphasizing that India’s strategic objective was to divert the attention of Pakistan’s security forces from counterterrorism operations, thereby providing TTP the breathing space to regroup.
The ISPR noted that this was the largest number of militants killed in a single day during ongoing security operations.
