Kabul: Afghan nationals awaiting US immigration processing are voicing concerns about prolonged uncertainty as they remain stranded in third countries. They are appealing to the US President to urgently address delays and take decisive action to resolve their cases.
One applicant, who wished to remain anonymous, told TOLO that US authorities would reassess their cases, stressing the need for a fair and thorough decision-making process for all individuals involved.
Transfers of Afghans with pending US immigration cases have reportedly been halted for the past three months, worsening the situation for many. Another applicant, also speaking anonymously, said those who had received preliminary approval but had not yet been scheduled for flights now find themselves ineligible and trapped in limbo.
In a related development, Axios reported yesterday that the US Department of Homeland Security had recently sent notices to over 200 Afghan asylum seekers in Iowa, ordering them to leave the country immediately.
Ehsan Khan Ahmadzai, a migrant rights advocate, urged the US government to revise its immigration policies concerning Afghan applicants. He emphasized the importance of providing clarity and preventing Afghans from being left in ongoing uncertainty.
These issues come against the backdrop of a previous immigration freeze under Donald Trump, who on his first day in office signed an executive order halting immigration processes for four months.
