Afghan Refugee Delegation Urges Government to Reconsider Decision and Allow More Time

Peshawar: A delegation representing Afghan refugees in Peshawar has appealed to Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Army Chief to grant them more time to leave the country in an organized manner.

During a press conference, the delegation urged the authorities to set a clear timeline for their departure so they can leave in phases. They also requested that Afghan children studying in schools, colleges, and universities not be deprived of their education, emphasizing the need for all stakeholders to reach a collective decision.

“The current situation in Afghanistan presents severe challenges, including food and shelter shortages,” they stated.

The Afghan representatives expressed their gratitude to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for his supportive words, saying, "He has won our hearts with his remarks. We have always been and will continue to be loyal to Pakistan."

Mian Khil Bryalay, Chairman of the United Central Supreme Council, along with Vice Chairman and Board Bazaar President Saeed Naqeeb Badshah, addressed Pakistan’s policies regarding Afghan refugees.

They highlighted the issue of the Torkham border closure, which has prevented voluntary returnees from crossing into Afghanistan. "The given timeframe is too short. Afghan refugees are facing difficulties in winding up their lives here before leaving. The government should reconsider its decision and allow us more time," they urged.
