Afghanistan’s Trade Sees Growth in 1403: Ministry of Industry and Commerce

KABUL: The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has announced that Afghanistan’s trade activities experienced significant growth in the solar year 1403. The country’s exports reached a total value of $1.785 billion, while imports amounted to $11.164 billion.

According to the ministry's report, Afghanistan exported a variety of goods, including figs, cotton, raisins, carpets, lead ingots, and precious and semi-precious stones. The main export destinations were Pakistan, India, the UAE, Uzbekistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Turkey, Iraq, and Tajikistan.

Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, confirmed the trade figures and highlighted the importance of expanding market access for Afghan products.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock stressed the need to address trade challenges, particularly those related to Pakistan. Mirwais Haji Zada, the chamber’s deputy, suggested that Afghanistan explore alternative markets, such as the UAE, to reduce reliance on Pakistan and enhance export opportunities.

Economic experts have also pointed out key factors that could further boost Afghanistan’s trade. Mir Shakir Yaqoobi, an expert in economic affairs, emphasized the need for improvements in transit and transportation infrastructure, the removal of banking restrictions, and better access to international financial systems.

In addition to exports, the ministry also provided details on Afghanistan’s major imports for 1403, which included diesel fuel, wheat flour, vehicle parts, liquefied gas, cotton textiles, spices, oil, and rice.
