Addis Ababa: The African Union (AU) has voiced deep concern over the escalating conflict in Sudan, warning of ongoing war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In a statement issued on Wednesday following a special meeting last week, the AU condemned the relentless violence and urged both warring factions to observe a humanitarian ceasefire during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
The call for a truce comes amid fresh tensions, with Sudan’s military-aligned government accusing Kenya of interfering in its internal affairs. The SAF claims that Kenya is facilitating efforts by the RSF to establish a parallel government in Sudanese territories under its control.
According to sources, the RSF is planning to declare its own government at an event in Nairobi this Friday. The Sudanese government has strongly opposed this move, describing it as a violation of Sudan’s sovereignty.
The ongoing conflict between the SAF and RSF has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, displacing millions and drawing international condemnation. The AU has reiterated its call for an immediate halt to hostilities and for both parties to engage in meaningful dialogue.
