Amritsar: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to PM Narendra Modi for honouring the memory of his idol Chettur Sankaran Nair, who represented a prominent voice in Indian nationalism and was an eminent lawyer who stood in condemnation of British atrocities after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919. Akshay Kumar touted in Instagram his clip of PM Modi at a public meeting in Haryana where the Prime Minister made some remarks to honour Nair's selfless services and bravery.
In the post, Akshay stated: "Thank you Hon'ble Prime Minister Mr. @narendramodi ji for remembering the great Chettur Sankaran Nair ji and his contribution to our freedom struggle." He went on to stress that it is very important to talk about such historical icons for the youth of this generation. He further mentioned that his upcoming film Kesari Chapter 2 is a tribute to the undying spirit and patriotism of Nair.
PM Modi recounted how C Sankaran Nair, though in a comfortable position under the British regime, chose to resign his office and speak out against the brutal Jallianwala Bagh massacre, where British soldiers opened fire on unarmed civilians in Amritsar on April 13, 1919. The PM stated that even from afar, be it from Kerala, Nair stood for justice for Punjab; that is where unity was shown, where courage was displayed.
Akshay Kumar's portrayal of Nair in Kesari 2 aims to throw a spotlight on this lesser-known but very potent freedom fighter. While the country remembers its heroes, the cinematic tribute hopes that it will enlighten audiences about the sacrifices made in India's journey towards freedom.
