Eindhoven: Arsenal ended their goal scoring drought in emphatic fashion, thrashing PSV Eindhoven 7-1 to set a new Champions League record for the most goals scored away from home in the knockout stages.
Mikel Arteta’s side, struggling for goals in recent matches, delivered a dominant performance to secure their biggest win since a 7-3 victory over Newcastle in 2012. Despite the historic achievement, Arteta remained focused on the bigger picture.
“For sure, it's great to be part of that, but we want to achieve far more important things,” he said. “We’re in a strong position to qualify, but there’s still a job to do in London.”
Chris Sutton said, praised Arsenal’s ruthlessness and fluid attacking play. “They were sensational in the final third. This performance will give them great confidence.”
Declan Rice echoed that sentiment, saying Arsenal’s performance was the result of consistent hard work. “We’ve been playing like this all season. Sometimes we score five, sometimes we don’t score at all but tonight, it all clicked.”
Despite missing key strikers Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, Arsenal shared the goals among six players, with Martin Ødegaard netting twice alongside Jurrien Timber, Mikel Merino, Ethan Nwaneri, Leandro Trossard, and Riccardo Calafiori.
With the victory, Arsenal all but secured a place in the next round, where they are likely to face either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid.
