LEVERKUSEN: Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich were held to a 2-2 draw by Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, missing the chance to extend their lead after Bayer Leverkusen’s earlier 0-0 draw with Union Berlin.
A win would have put Bayern eight points clear with five games remaining.
Dortmund took the lead in the 48th minute through Maximilian Beier, but Bayern responded quickly with two goals in four minutes.
However, Dortmund leveled again with Waldemar Anton’s goal 15 minutes before the final whistle.
Bayern’s Thomas Mueller said, “We’ve moved a step closer to the championship,” ahead of their crucial Champions League quarter-final second leg against Inter Milan, where they face a 2-1 first-leg deficit.
Harry Kane urged for more clinical finishing, saying, “We’ll have opportunities; it’s about taking them at the right moments.”
Despite Bayern dominating the first half, Dortmund seized the advantage early in the second half with Beier’s counter-attacking goal.
Bayern’s Serge Gnabry and Raphael Guerreiro provided quick responses, but Dortmund’s Anton equalized with a rebound.
Bayern remain six points clear of Leverkusen, edging closer to the title. Meanwhile, Leverkusen’s title defense hopes suffered as they were held by Union Berlin, despite the return of Florian Wirtz from injury.
Elsewhere, Freiburg defeated Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-1 with a last-minute header, while Augsburg beat Bochum 2-1, moving up to eighth place.
Hoffenheim secured a vital 2-0 win over Mainz, and St. Pauli triumphed 2-1 against Holstein Kiel.
