Gaza: At least 10 people, including a child who burned to death, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a school-turned-shelter in Gaza City, amid ongoing attacks on displaced Palestinian civilians.
In the early hours of April 23, 2025, the Palestinian Civil Defence recovered 10 bodies from a school shelter that caught fire following the Israeli attack. Emergency responders also reported many injuries, and a growing number of people remain trapped under rubble in other strike zones across Gaza, including Tuffah and Jabalia.
Footage from the scene showed flames consuming makeshift tent structures, melting canvas, and burned furniture, painting a grim picture of the devastation.
Additional strikes in the so-called “safe zone” of al-Mawasi near Khan Younis also killed at least one person and injured others. These attacks come amid relentless Israeli artillery and airstrikes across the Strip, pushing emergency services beyond their limits and prompting urgent pleas for international assistance.
The International Committee of the Red Cross has been called upon to intervene, as several affected zones have been declared too dangerous to access by Israeli forces.
