China and Russia Strengthen Diplomatic and Economic Ties Amid Global Tensions

Moscow: Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed Beijing's support for Russia against "hegemonic bullying" by other nations during a high-profile meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin.

This significant diplomatic engagement comes as the two nations deepen their strategic partnership amid ongoing global challenges.

President Xi emphasized China’s readiness to collaborate with Russia in maintaining global stability, opposing what he described as unilateralism and coercive practices by other countries. He praised the strengthening "political mutual trust" and practical cooperation between the two countries.

Welcomed with full state honors, Xi was greeted by Putin at the Kremlin, where both leaders stood to attention for their national anthems. In his address, President Putin called Xi a "dear friend" and highlighted that the growing ties between Moscow and Beijing are aimed at mutual benefit and are not intended to target any third party.

A key focus of their meeting was the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Russia’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. Putin thanked Xi for his presence at the event and reiterated the importance of preserving the "historical truth" of the conflict, cautioning against what he described as Western attempts to distort history. He drew a parallel between the historical alliance of Russia and China and their current stance against "neo-Nazism" and "militarism."

The talks occurred at a critical moment in Russia's ongoing conflict with Ukraine, with international calls for a peaceful resolution intensifying. Amid Western sanctions on Russia, China has emerged as a crucial economic partner, becoming the largest buyer of Russian oil and gas.

Both leaders expressed their intention to further enhance their "no limits" strategic partnership. Xi described Putin as an "old friend," and both agreed to continue exchanging visits in the near future.

The meeting is part of a broader diplomatic event in Moscow, where over two dozen foreign leaders have gathered to mark the anniversary, underscoring Russia’s continued efforts to maintain its global influence despite diplomatic challenges.
