Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has reaffirmed Beijing’s opposition to unilateral tariffs imposed by the United States, calling for global cooperation to defend international trade norms.
His remarks came during a foreign ministers' summit with Central Asian nations held in Kazakhstan, according to a statement released by China’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
Wang condemned what he described as protectionist policies and “extreme egoism” by certain countries, emphasizing China’s commitment to multilateralism and fair trade practices. He added that China would unite with other nations to counteract the impact of such economic bullying.
His comments follow U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim in a recent interview that trade talks with China were ongoing. However, Beijing has refuted this, saying no negotiations are currently underway, further clouding the outlook on efforts to resolve the trade dispute that has raised global economic concerns.
During talks with Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, Wang reiterated China’s stance on building international unity and promoting stability through cooperation.
