BEIJING: In a tit-for-tat move, China announced on Monday that it has imposed sanctions on several U.S. lawmakers, government officials, and leaders of non-governmental organizations.
The decision comes as a direct response to Washington’s recent sanctions targeting six officials from China and Hong Kong.
Speaking on the matter, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun expressed strong disapproval of the U.S. actions, calling them unacceptable. "China firmly opposes these measures," Guo stated, adding that any interference by the United States in matters related to Hong Kong would be met with firm and equal retaliation.
