Crackdown on Human Traffickers Intensifies in Pakistan Following Greek Waters Tragedy

Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan has ramped up its operations against human traffickers following the tragic boat accident in Greek waters on December 13, 2024. The incident resulted in the deaths of 49 Pakistani nationals, with 9 bodies recovered and 40 still missing.

In a series of operations across various cities, including Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Islamabad, the FIA has apprehended more than 10 individuals involved in human trafficking. Among those arrested is a notorious trafficker, Imran, who was listed in the Ministry of Interior's Red Book.

The FIA’s Director General announced strict disciplinary actions within the agency, dismissing 35 employees for negligence related to human trafficking cases. Additionally, legal cases have been registered against 13 others. The DG reiterated that negligence and carelessness in handling such sensitive matters will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Meanwhile, the Greek authorities have reported that four more dead bodies of the boat accident were received last night in a hospital in Athens.
