Cricket Returns to Olympics: Fairplex Pomona Chosen for LA28 Venue

Los Angeles: The cricket tournament at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games will take place at a temporary stadium built at the Fairplex in Pomona, a city located about an hour from the athletes' village.

Sources close to the LA 2028 organizing committee said that while multiple venue options were explored including East Coast cities like New York for more favorable time zones the decision prioritized keeping the six-team event within Los Angeles County for logistical and financial reasons.

Organizers were also keen to ensure top cricket players could stay at the athletes' village at the University of California and experience the Olympic environment alongside other athletes.

Among the venues considered but ultimately rejected was the Oakland Coliseum, currently being adapted for Major League Cricket, the U.S. 's T20 franchise league.

The chosen venue, Fairplex, has hosted the Los Angeles County Fair since 1922 and regularly accommodates concerts, trade shows, and sporting events.

A purpose-built cricket stadium will be temporarily constructed for the Games and dismantled afterward mirroring the model used for the 2023 T20 World Cup venue in New York.

LA 2028 officials reportedly completed a final inspection of the site two months ago before reaching an agreement with the non-profit organization managing the 500-acre location.
