La Paz: A tragic bus accident in Bolivia on Monday resulted in the deaths of at least 31 people and left more than a dozen injured, local police reported.
The crash occurred in the southwestern municipality of Yocalla, where the driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle. The bus plunged nearly 800 meters (2,625 feet) down a steep ravine, a police officer confirmed from a local hospital.
Among the injured, 10 adults and four children were admitted to the hospital, with several in critical condition, according to a hospital official in a recorded statement.
Authorities noted that the mountainous road where the accident took place is known for its sharp turns and challenging terrain. Police suspect that excessive speed may have contributed to the tragedy.
