Israeli Strikes Kill 585 Across Iran, Rights Group Reports Civilian Toll Mounting

Tehran: As the Israel-Iran conflict escalates, new casualty figures from a prominent human rights organization paint a grim picture of the toll inside Iran. The Washington, DC-based group Human Rights Activists has reported that at least 585 people have been killed across Iran due to Israeli airstrikes, with another 1,326 wounded. The group, which has a long track record of documenting human rights violations within Iran, stated that it had verified 239 of the dead as civilians and 126 as members of Iran’s security forces.

Iran has largely withheld updated death tolls from the public. Its most recent official statement, issued on Monday, acknowledged 224 deaths and 1,277 injuries—numbers that now appear significantly outdated. Human Rights Activists, known for providing detailed, verified figures during the 2022 Mahsa Amini protests, said it cross-referenced local media and eyewitness reports with its network of sources throughout Iran before publishing the current count.

The human cost of the Israeli campaign is growing more visible as strikes continue to hit military and civilian targets alike. With Israel focusing on missile launch sites, defense infrastructure, and suspected nuclear facilities, residential areas and populated districts are increasingly being caught in the crossfire. The distinction between strategic targets and collateral damage is becoming blurred as the scope and intensity of the bombardments increase.

The latest figures also raise difficult questions about transparency and information control within Iran. With the government limiting public updates and media tightly restricted, much of the narrative has been shaped by foreign-based monitoring groups and satellite imagery. As a result, much of the Iranian public is left uncertain about the full extent of damage and loss of life across their own cities.

As international concern grows, the humanitarian fallout adds new urgency to calls for a ceasefire. While military objectives continue to dominate both Israeli and Iranian strategies, the mounting civilian casualties underscore the severe consequences of a prolonged and unrestrained conflict. With every passing day, the war’s true cost is becoming harder to ignore—both inside Iran and on the global stage.
