Defection by Syrian Soldiers Towards Amnesty from Assad

In a recent turn of events, there have been media reports which claim that multiple Syrian soldiers have started to deviate from the regime of President Bashar Al-Assad in return for the promise of amnesty. The development displays the change of loyalty which is evident as there is discontent amongst the military personnel. As reported, a considerable count of such soldiers who have spent massive years in active combat are willing to sunmotion the regime of Bashar Al-Assad and deplat anywhere if this protects them from being legally prosecuted. The indefinite war and the suppression of the regime have adverse effects leading to reduction of morale leading to change of perspective.

Amnesty promises, as reported, made high ranking government officials with the motive to dissuade change in allegiance by the factions and themselves from assistance. With an opportunity to surrender it’s unthinkable to go back to being accused of running away from the camp and being charged of mutiny. Many of the promised amnesty remain unfulfilled meanwhile a decent number of the military personnel remain doubted from making the change. Retaliation fear and the fallout of family members further prevent them from changing allegiance easy to switch. Earlier, majority of us assumed only a few would want to change their loyalties but now it’s become quite apparent, the defection appeal has been overdone and regime loyalists are more in number than ex soldiers.

This move could potentially change the balance of power, however, it remains to be determined if it will set off a larger exodus. The defection of these soldiers is an indication of the growing rifts in the forces of Assad, which has always relied on military strength and loyalty to reign over the country. The chances of amnesty provide an exit strategy for some, but for many, the fear of the unknown makes it impossible to break free from the regime and consequently their futures remain bleak. As the conflict festers, life for the soldiers becomes increasingly dangerous.
