"I thought I'd spend my career here, and I wanted so badly to bring you a championship," Doncic wrote in his statement, reflecting on his path. He recalled how the people in North Texas welcomed him and made him feel at home when he first arrived as a small child from Slovenia. He wrote, "Through both good and challenging time your support never changed," expressing gratitude to supporters for their steadfast devotion through both victories and setbacks.
He thanked the Lakers for the "incredible opportunity" and reiterated his resolve to play with fun and enthusiasm wherever he goes in a different social media message.
In addition to playing basketball, Doncic made a big impact on the Dallas community by participating in a number of humanitarian endeavors. During the COVID-19 outbreak, he helped distribute sneakers to frontline workers and made gifts to charities in North Texas.
