Dr. Yunus Meets Modi: Key BIMSTEC Issues Discussed

Bangkok: Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus met with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bangkok, Thailand, at the Sixth Bimstec Summit, in an overwhelming bilateral importance. These discussions seemed of significant importance for both countries.

During the course of these discussions raised by Dr. Yunus, the most significant among them has been the question of the commitment to return Mrs. Sheikh Hasina to Dhaka; the concern regarding the sharing by the two nations from the common rivers and another point on border killings. These spring out of past occurrences and are necessitated by the visits.

"The meeting, in the words of Dr. Yunus's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, was "very constructive, fruitful, and productive." Both leaders have discussed all these objectively while looking for outcomes supporting the interests and mutual benefits of both Bangladesh and India. Their discussions are premised around pursuance of mutual interests with an even broader perspective of regional cooperation.

With the Bimstec Summit on, leaders from South Asia and Southeast Asia had converged on one Delhi dais, seeking better coalitions within the heart of the region. However, Yunus and Modi's conversations are a sign of the ongoing efforts to heal, from their end, many fence-sitting, unresolved issues that can’t but prove beneficial to foster the cross-border relationships; from here, they look to send out many lifelong indications of goodwill.
