DUBAI: Dubai’s government has introduced a new policy for Ramadan 2025 that allows flexible working hours and remote work for public sector employees. The policy is designed to ease the challenges of the fasting month by reducing overall working hours and enabling a better balance between work and family duties.
The policy was announced on February 26, 2025, by the Dubai Government Human Resources Department. It applies to all public sector employees across Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Under the new guidelines, government employees are required to work five and a half hours from Monday to Thursday—with three of those hours offered on a flexible basis—and only three hours on Fridays. Additionally, employees are permitted to work remotely for up to two days per week. This new schedule replaces the previous year’s timings of 9:00 am to 2:30 pm from Monday to Thursday and 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Fridays.
This initiative aims to alleviate the physical and spiritual burdens of Ramadan by reducing the average working hours for public sector employees—3.5 hours less from Monday to Thursday and 1.5 hours less on Fridays—while still ensuring that essential government functions are maintained. Private sector companies in the UAE are also encouraged to adopt similar flexible work arrangements, reducing daily working hours by two hours, based on their specific service conditions. The move reflects the leadership’s commitment to employee well-being during Ramadan while sustaining the productivity of public services in Dubai, a bustling global city.
