Eating Cherries Daily May Support Cellular and Heart Health

Washington: A growing body of research suggests that cherries, often called the “fruit of heaven,” may offer powerful health benefits thanks to their rich antioxidant content. Low in calories and high in fibre, vitamins, potassium, and magnesium, cherries—especially those with long stems—may help protect against cellular damage caused by inflammation, pollution, or metabolic stress.

Although most studies are small, findings indicate that sweet and tart cherries can reduce inflammation and muscle soreness, particularly in athletes. For instance, marathon runners who consumed tart cherry juice before and after races reported faster recovery and less discomfort.

There is also limited evidence suggesting cherry juice may support people with diabetes by lowering blood sugar and blood pressure, as well as reducing cholesterol in those who are obese. Additionally, cherries have been linked to better sleep due to their natural melatonin and may enhance brain function, especially in older adults. Though more research is needed, cherries remain a promising natural aid for various health concerns.
