Los Angeles: M3GAN director James Wan has revealed exciting details about his upcoming spin-off film SOULM8TE, set for release on January 6, 2026. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Wan, joined by executive producer Allison Williams, teased a darker, more adult take on the tech-horror genre. Wan described the film as “Fatal Attraction with robots,” saying SOULM8TE will break away from M3GAN’s signature sass and PG-13 tone.
Instead, the story will explore grief and obsession as a man turns to an AI android to cope with his wife’s death. The R-rated sci-fi film stars Lily Sullivan, David Rysdahl, Claudia Doumit, and Oliver Cooper. Williams noted the plot's real-world relevance, pointing out that AI companions already exist.
“We’re imagining how that tech could evolve into something more unsettling,” she said. While SOULM8TE is set in the same universe, Wan clarified that it will tell a completely separate story with no crossover from M3GAN herself.
