Egypt Hopes US-Iran Nuclear Talks Bring Lasting Regional Stability

Cairo: Egypt has expressed hope that the direct nuclear talks between the United States and Iran, held in Oman, will lead to an agreement that addresses the concerns of both nations and brings stability to the Arab Gulf region.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on April 13, 2025, welcoming the cooperative approach by both sides and praising the role of Oman in hosting the talks.

Egypt noted that the discussions, described as “constructive” by both the US and Iranian officials, show the value of dialogue and negotiation over conflict. The ministry added that the talks are seen as a positive step towards reducing regional tensions, particularly in relation to the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Egyptian officials expressed their hope that these negotiations would help bring about a sustainable ceasefire and pave the way for reconstruction efforts in Gaza, ensuring that Palestinians remain on their land and move closer to establishing a viable state.

The statement also emphasized Egypt’s broader vision for peace, urging that the momentum from these high-level talks be leveraged to end decades of suffering in the region. It highlighted the belief that military solutions are ineffective and that political processes and diplomacy are the key to resolving longstanding conflicts. Egypt strongly supports measures aimed at resolving conflicts through peaceful dialogue, a policy it has long championed.

At the same time, the US and Iranian talks have focused on Tehran’s nuclear program, with concerns raised over Iran’s enriched uranium exceeding limits set by previous agreements. Both sides labeled the meeting as constructive, and a second round of talks has been scheduled for next week.

This renewed diplomatic effort comes amid heightened regional tensions, including reports of increased military action in Rafah by Israeli forces, underscoring the urgency of finding a lasting solution.

Overall, Egypt sees these negotiations as a critical opportunity to de-escalate conflict and promote lasting stability across the region, particularly in a time when the challenges facing the Middle East are more complex than ever.
