Egypt, Saudi Arabia Coordinate Gaza Recovery Plan, Ceasefire Steps

RIYADH: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a phone call to discuss the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee’s next steps in engaging international parties regarding the Arab plan for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza.

The ministers emphasized continued coordination between Egypt and Saudi Arabia to de-escalate tensions and prevent further regional instability, according to Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf.

According to the source, The discussion was part of ongoing consultations between Cairo and Riyadh to reinstate the Gaza ceasefire agreement and ensure its phased implementation amid the ongoing Israeli escalation.

They also reviewed developments on several regional issues and exchanged views on various crises.

Previously, Cairo hosted an emergency Arab summit on March 4 that adopted a "comprehensive Arab plan" for Gaza’s reconstruction, which received Islamic support.

The final statement from the summit highlighted coordination within the joint Arab-Islamic ministerial committee to engage international stakeholders and reaffirm the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.

At the end of last month, Cairo hosted a joint Arab-Islamic ministerial meeting with European participation to promote the Gaza reconstruction plan and secure a consensus on a ceasefire and full support for the rebuilding efforts.
