CAIRO: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a telephone conversation with King Abdullah II of Jordan on Saturday, during which they exchanged views on the ongoing crisis in Gaza and broader regional developments.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency, President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s steadfast support for Jordan in combating terrorism and extremist threats that could undermine its national security and stability. He also emphasized the need for continued collaboration to realize the shared aspirations of both nations for peace and prosperity.
King Abdullah expressed gratitude for Egypt’s consistent backing and highlighted the strong, historic bonds between the two countries.
A key focus of the discussion was the situation in the Gaza Strip, where both leaders underscored the urgency of achieving a ceasefire and ensuring unrestricted humanitarian aid reaches those in need. They also examined the situation in the West Bank and expressed unified opposition to any moves aimed at displacing the Palestinian people.
Reaffirming their commitment to the Palestinian cause, President Sisi and King Abdullah reiterated that the creation of an independent Palestinian state, based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only path toward lasting peace in the region.
The call also touched on strengthening Egypt-Jordan bilateral relations and expanding joint initiatives to enhance their strategic partnership and mutual interests.
