EmiratesGBC, Expo City Dubai Partner to Drive Sustainable Construction

Dubai: Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Expo City Dubai to promote sustainability in the UAE’s building industry.

The agreement, signed during the Cities in Action Forum 2025 by EmiratesGBC Chairman Khaled Bushnaq and Expo City Dubai’s Chief Development and Delivery Officer Ahmad Al Khatib, aims to accelerate efforts toward decarbonizing the construction sector while ensuring economic growth.

Under the MoU, both organizations will develop guidelines to reduce carbon emissions, particularly embodied carbon, in real estate projects. The collaboration will also focus on enhancing stakeholder awareness, exploring net-zero carbon materials, and addressing key challenges in sustainable construction.

Khaled Bushnaq emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving net-zero goals, stating, “Dubai Expo City’s sustainable urban model makes it the ideal partner to help shape a resilient and environmentally responsible future for the UAE’s construction sector.”

As part of the Cities in Action Forum, EmiratesGBC hosted the Developers’ Leaders Forum, where CEO Abdullatif AlBitawi presented sustainability insights from industry leaders. Additionally, EmiratesGBC collaborated with WorldGBC on discussions about climate resilience and led a workshop on gender-inclusive urban planning.

EmiratesGBC, a non-profit organization, is part of a global network of over 75 Green Building Councils working toward sustainable urban development.
