Istanbul: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Israel of obstructing peace in the Middle East and attempting to sabotage upcoming nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran.
Speaking at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers' Conference in Istanbul, Erdogan condemned recent Israeli strikes on Iran, stating they were deliberately timed to derail the diplomatic process.
"The Netanyahu government is proving to be the greatest obstacle to peace in the region," Erdogan said. "The real aim behind the June 13 attacks was to damage the negotiations."
He further asserted that Israel is unwilling to resolve issues through diplomacy and instead seeks to destabilize the region through aggressive actions.
President Erdogan called on countries that have influence over Israel to take immediate steps toward de-escalation. "We must prevent this conflict from turning into a broader war and work towards a resolution through dialogue," he urged.
The remarks come at a sensitive moment, as Washington and Tehran prepare for a potential new round of nuclear negotiations amid escalating regional tensions.
