Iran’s Red Crescent Reports Five Hospitals Damaged by Israeli Strikes

Tehran: Five hospitals in Iran sustained damage amid Israeli airstrikes, according to Pirhossein Kolivand, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, who spoke to state-affiliated IRNA news agency on Friday.

Kolivand said while the hospitals were not directly targeted, the shockwaves from nearby explosions shattered glass windows and filled facilities with smoke, leaving patients struggling to breathe. He did not specify which hospitals were affected or when exactly the damage occurred, but described the incidents as “clear violations” of international humanitarian law.

“We have documented the Israeli regime’s attacks, which are against international principles, and submitted them to international institutions,” Kolivand stated, signaling Iran’s intention to pursue legal action through global humanitarian channels.

Under the Geneva Conventions, deliberate or reckless attacks affecting medical facilities during armed conflict are prohibited and can constitute war crimes.

The revelation follows reports that Israel’s own Soroka Medical Center in Beer Sheva was damaged by an Iranian missile on Thursday. Israel accused Iran of deliberately targeting the hospital, a charge Tehran has denied, claiming the intended target was a nearby military facility.

The mutual accusations highlight the growing risk to civilian infrastructure in the spiraling Israel-Iran conflict, which has increasingly drawn both nations into direct and indirect strikes far beyond their immediate borders.
