ISLAMABAD: A high-powered committee, formed to lead a national campaign against illegal spectrum usage, held a meeting on Monday under the chairmanship of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The meeting focused on deportation of illegal immigrants, human trafficking, stringent punishments for beggars, and the digitalization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
According to reports, the committee was also assigned the task of drafting and implementing relevant laws to address these issues. This was the second meeting of the high-powered body since its formation on January 28, following the directives issued in the Apex Committee meeting held on January 3.
The meeting took place just a week before the deadline for illegal immigrants to voluntarily leave the country expires.
According to informed sources, the committee discussed various measures regarding the deportation of illegal immigrants, human trafficking, and strict punishments for professional beggars. Additionally, matters related to the digitalization of the FBR were also deliberated upon.
The committee comprises the interior ministers of all four provinces, as well as those from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Other members include the Secretary of Interior, representatives from the Petroleum Division, the Chairman of the FBR, and officials from key intelligence and law enforcement agencies, including the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Military Intelligence (MI), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Military Operations Directorate, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and provincial counter-terrorism departments.
