Colombo: Sri Lankan rescue teams reported on Thursday that four children had drowned in flash floods caused by torrential rains from a powerful storm currently heading towards India. In addition to the tragic deaths, four others remain missing after the floodwaters submerged their homes. Over 250,000 people have been displaced across Sri Lanka as a result of the severe flooding. The storm, which has been moving slowly over the southwest Bay of Bengal, has raised concerns among Indian weather officials, who noted the possibility of it intensifying into a cyclonic storm. Cyclones are a common and deadly threat in the region, often causing widespread devastation and loss of life. Both Sri Lanka and India are on high alert as the storm's path is closely monitored.
