Hania Aamir’s "Sardar Ji 3" Released Globally, Banned in India

Lahore: Hania Aamir’s latest film, Sardar Ji 3, starring alongside Indian Punjabi icon Diljit Dosanjh, has been released worldwide—except in India. The film premiered in cinemas across Pakistan after receiving clearance from all three Pakistani censor boards: Sindh, Punjab, and the federal board.

The film’s Pakistani distributor, Zain Wali of Wali Films, confirmed the approval. On June 22, Hania appeared in the film’s trailer, after which the producers announced its global release, excluding India due to ongoing opposition from Indian filmmakers. This backlash intensified following Hania’s inclusion in the cast.

Despite the uncertainty, cinemas like Universal Cinemas in Lahore and Centaurus Cineplex in Islamabad confirmed screenings, with Universal’s first show set for 11:00 am tomorrow. Karachi’s Neoplex Cinemas, however, stated they haven’t received official screening instructions due to the existing ban on Indian films.

While the film has Indian origins, its producer, White Hill Studios, is Canada-based, allowing it to bypass Pakistan’s 2019 ban on Indian cinema. Sardar Ji 3 has generated buzz among fans, especially with Aamir’s lead role. Although filmmakers haven’t formally announced a Pakistan release on official platforms, the film’s screenings in local cinemas indicate growing audience interest despite political sensitivities.
