Damoh: This shocking case of Madhya Pradesh alleges that the fake doctor was conducting heart surgeries on patients and killing them in the private missionary hospital in Damoh city, with at least seven deaths resulting from his "care."
This alleged doctor, whose name was given as N. John Kem, presented himself as a famous British cardiologist and claimed to have sufficient expertise in performing a life-threatening surgery. It was alleged that the patients who had heart surgery died soon after, raising grave doubts about the medical practice of this hospital.
The investigation carried out by the authorities revealed that the true identity of the accused being Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav. A forgery of documents was employed by Yadav to secure employment at the Christian missionary hospital. He carried on this impressive impersonation in public for so long that it did not attract any attention, and soon he began to work as a cardiologist although he was never legally qualified to practice.
The district administration became aware as reports of deaths surfaced. Advocate Deepak Tiwari, who heads the Child Welfare Committee of Damoh, filed a complaint saying that in fact, the death toll may be much higher than even those seven officially recorded. Several patients, who managed to escape surgery after developing suspicions about this doctor's credentials, have now come forward to report on the matter.
On the other hand, Priyank Kanoongo, a member of the National Human Rights Commission, mentioned that the missionary hospital was getting funds under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, complicating the situation further. He pointed out that action had been initiated based on the complaint about the fake doctor performing surgeries under the scheme.
The authorities have seized all documents and are scrutinizing the hospital for the extent of the fraud. The investigations tied the accused to several controversies, including a criminal case in Hyderabad. The dubious conduct of the fake doctor raised eyebrows, with allegations of photoshopping pictures with personalities like UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Meanwhile, the district authorities of Damoh, including District Collector Sudhir Kochar, have promised to give a detailed statement once the inquiry ends. The entire matter has stirred widespread public anger, many of whom started questioning the safety and reliability of India's private healthcare sector.
