High Court criticizes BJP minister for insulting Army officer

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh High Court has slammed BJP minister Kunwar Vijay Shah for making insulting comments against Colonel Sofia Qureshi, the senior Indian Army officer.  Shah's remarks were aimed at Colonel Qureshi, who, along with Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, has been leading media briefings on Operation Sindoor, a critical military operation, with Foreign Secretary Vikram Sikri also present during these briefings.

The bench of the High Court Justices Atul Sreedharan and Anuradha Shukla condemned Shah for passing "dangerous" and ‘’undignified’’  comments against a decorated officer and an attempt to malign her reputation. In a ruling, the court instructed the state police chief to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against the minister, and also accused Shah of breeding tension by relating the Muslim identity with separatist activities.

This act of the court reiterates the significance of maintaining respect towards public figures, particularly for the armed forces. This has been reinforced by the honourable service executed by Colonel Qureshi in the Indian Army, wherein the minister's remarks are offensive not only to her person but also towards the whole armed forces. The case brings into light concerns about the wordiness being used by people in public offices, and hence requires accountability thereon.
