IMF Projects Modest Economic Growth for Turkmenistan Through 2026

Ashgabat: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects Turkmenistan's economy to expand by 2.3 percent in both 2025 and 2026, according to a recent report.

The latest projections align with the IMF's previous outlook released in October 2024, showing no significant change in the country's growth forecast.

Despite this steady economic outlook, the IMF noted that Turkmenistan continues to face inflationary pressures, with inflation climbing to 4.8 percent due to rising external costs.

On a broader scale, the IMF’s report paints a more optimistic picture for Central Asia as a whole. The region is projected to grow by 4.9 percent in 2025 and 4.3 percent in 2026—both figures up by 0.4 percentage points from the October forecast.

Although regional growth is expected to slow from 5.4 percent in 2024, it is still projected to remain higher than levels seen before the COVID-19 pandemic.
