New Delhi: India is witnessing a renewed surge in COVID-19 cases, with the total number of active cases rising to 1,010, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The sharpest increase was reported in Kerala, which recorded 335 new infections, followed by Maharashtra with 153, and Delhi with 99. Gujarat added 76 new cases, while Punjab reported its first case and initiated contact tracing.
Health authorities have identified two new COVID-19 variants, NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, which are currently under observation by the World Health Organization (WHO). While experts advise the public not to panic due to the mild nature of the symptoms, state advisories are urging citizens to maintain hygiene, avoid crowded places, and stay updated with local health bulletins.
In Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured that hospitals are fully prepared for any potential rise in cases, with essential facilities already activated. Hospitals in other high-burden states have also begun precautionary measures to manage a possible case load increase.
Despite the low severity of infections so far, the resurgence has reignited concerns over pandemic fatigue and healthcare readiness. Authorities continue to emphasize caution, responsible behavior, and timely testing to avoid any widespread outbreak.
With constant monitoring by national and international health agencies, India remains vigilant as the virus evolves and new sub-variants emerge.
